...need an answer...about xp and lvls...

Hey. i have just made my w3ft server. when i turn on the server people play and they get experience...when i turn it off and back on, the exp. is 0. so i want to know is this normal? has the server be on all the time or can it be turned off and back on so that the exp. stays as before?
